A Urine RE/ME test is a routine urine investigation that checks the physical, chemical, and microscopic properties of urine. The Routine Examination (RE) portion evaluates color, appearance, pH, specific gravity, protein, glucose, ketones, and other basic parameters. The Microscopic Examination (ME) looks for red blood cells, white blood cells, epithelial cells, bacteria, crystals, and casts. This test helps detect urinary tract infections (UTI), kidney problems, dehydration, metabolic disorders, and other health issues.
For the Urine RE/ME test, a clean-catch midstream urine sample is required to avoid contamination. No fasting is needed, but proper cleaning before collection improves accuracy. This test is commonly recommended when symptoms like burning urination, frequency, lower abdominal pain, cloudy urine, or back pain suggest infection or urinary system disorders. It is one of the most useful tests for routine health evaluation.
