An HbA1c (Glycated Hemoglobin) test measures the average blood sugar levels over the past 2 to 3 months. It shows how much glucose has attached to hemoglobin in red blood cells. This test is widely used to diagnose diabetes, prediabetes, and to monitor long-term blood sugar control in diabetic patients. Unlike fasting or post-meal tests, HbA1c is not affected by daily sugar fluctuations and provides a more stable picture of glucose management.
For the HbA1c test, a small blood sample is collected from a vein, and no fasting or special preparation is needed. The results help doctors understand how well diabetes treatment is working and whether medication or lifestyle adjustments are required. It is commonly done along with FBS, PP2, and other glucose tests for a complete evaluation of diabetic health.
