A Ferritin test measures the level of ferritin, a protein that stores iron in your body. It reflects how much iron is available for essential functions like making red blood cells and transporting oxygen. Low ferritin levels are a strong indicator of iron deficiency, even before anemia develops, and may cause fatigue, weakness, hair fall, and pale skin. High ferritin levels may indicate inflammation, liver disease, chronic infections, or conditions that cause excess iron storage.

For the Ferritin test, a small blood sample is collected from a vein. Fasting is not always required, but some doctors may recommend a morning, fasting sample for more accurate results. This test is often performed along with Iron, TIBC, and Hemoglobin tests to diagnose anemia, monitor treatment, and assess overall iron status in the body.
