A DLC (Differential Leukocyte Count) test measures the percentage of different types of white blood cells in your blood, including neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils. Each type of white blood cell plays a unique role in protecting the body from infections, allergies, and inflammatory conditions. Abnormal levels can help identify bacterial or viral infections, allergic reactions, parasitic infections, and certain blood disorders.
For the DLC test, a small blood sample is collected from a vein, and no fasting or special preparation is required. This test is commonly done along with TLC or as part of a complete CBC report. It helps doctors understand the type and severity of an infection or immune response and guides appropriate treatment based on the pattern of white blood cells.
