An adenosine deaminase (ADA) test measures the level of the ADA enzyme in bodily fluids, primarily to help diagnose tuberculosis (TB), especially in pleural fluid around the lungs. Elevated levels of ADA are often seen in the presence of a tuberculosis infection due to the body’s immune response. The test is also used in some cases to diagnose immune deficiencies or other inflammatory conditions.
