A Sickling Test is used to detect the presence of sickle-shaped red blood cells, which are commonly seen in Sickle Cell Disease and Sickle Cell Trait. This test helps identify whether the hemoglobin in the blood becomes abnormal under low-oxygen conditions, causing the red blood cells to change shape. These sickle-shaped cells can block blood flow, leading to pain, anemia, and other complications.

A small blood sample is taken from a vein, and no fasting or special preparation is needed. The sample is examined under specific laboratory conditions to check for sickling of red blood cells. Doctors often recommend this test when symptoms like fatigue, joint pain, frequent infections, or family history of sickle cell disorders are present.
