A TLC (Total Leukocyte Count) test measures the total number of white blood cells (WBCs) present in your blood. White blood cells are essential for fighting infections and supporting the immune system. Abnormal TLC levels may indicate infections, inflammation, immune system disorders, allergies, stress, or bone marrow problems. Doctors often recommend a TLC test when symptoms like fever, weakness, body pain, or frequent infections are present.
For the TLC test, a small blood sample is collected from a vein, and no fasting or special preparation is required. The test is usually part of a Complete Blood Count (CBC) but can also be done separately if needed. It helps monitor ongoing infections, assess overall immune health, and guide further diagnostic tests or treatments.
